This is an interesting Depression-era fantasy tale, with a loathsome but intriguing protagonist. Norbert is not a good man, but you'll find yourself fascinated to learn more about the awful things he's done as you try to understand why he's the way he is. The writer does a good job of capturing the Depression-era atmosphere with his chosen turns of phrase and dialog. A very gripping tale--I only wish the ending had given us a little more! Definitely a promising beginning for this author...hopefully this is only a taste of what's to come!Product details

Great writing with a thought provoking ending. The main character draws you in. Do you root for or against him?
This story plunges you into the gritty, hard reality of the Great Depression. But quickly things shift into the realm of the strange and foreboding - is it just fantasy, or a glimpse into our own propensity to darkness? I really enjoyed the story just as a story, but appreciated the added philosophical part of the ride. The end (don't worry, won't spoil it!) leaves you wanting more. I hope to see more from this story and this author.
Great bargain and an excellent read.
I stumbled upon this story online a couple years back and was blown away. It's not often I revisit short stories (or write reviews,) but this one really had a profound impact on me. This is my second time reading it and I wanted to leave a review for anyone on the fence about purchasing. The Nickel Pass is an absolute visceral experience...easily the best dollar I've ever spent online. Without giving too much away, it's about a shell of a man operating on the fringe of society who is forced to experience a difficult precipice. Read this, trust me it will stick with you!!
